Unique Features

Ingredients
High quality barley malt, processed sugar, aroma, hops and yeast strains imported from Europe and natural mineral water are used for manufacturing beer
Inauguration of Corporate Office
The corporate office of SOM GROUP OF COMPANIES in Maharana Pratap Nagar, Bhopal was inaugurated on the 14th of May, 1992. The inauguration was done through noble hands of Mr. J.K. Arora, Chairman Managing Director, SOM.
First Brick of the SDBL
The very next year the first brick of the SOM Distilleries and Breweries Ltd was laid on the 24th of March, 1993 by Hon’ble Mr. P.N. Sapra (Director), Mr. and Mrs. M.L. Arora, Mr. S. Lal (Technical Director) and Mr. S.C. Chaturvedi. All members of the SOM family were present on the occasion. In 1994, the plant was commissioned by Alfa Laval, Sweden, on turnkey basis. At its start the brewery had a capacity of 1, 00,000 HLA. Today, after 13 years of perpetual growth, SOM has gradually expanded three folds.
SDBL-Landmark in Modern Brewing Technology
In cooperation with Alfa Laval (I) Ltd, the Brewery maintains one of the largest plants in India. It was also one of the first breweries to be set up in the country in which the brew house was operated and controlled by PLC (Programmed Logic Control) Fermentation and maturation of the brew is carried out in the same tank termed as Uni-Tank. Special types of filters are used at multiple stages to ensure high quality standards. A high speed bottling line has also been installed. Brewery expansion plans are also in process and aimed to be achieved by 2008.
Cutting Edge Packaging Technology
To the existing fully automatic Beer Bottling Line of 10,000 Bottles Per Hour (BPH), a complete new high speed Bottling line of 21,000 BPH is being installed which is fully automatic and operated by PLC (Programmed Logic Control). It comprises of all machines from KRONES, Germany, which is internationally recognized.
In April 2000, Canning line was started with a capacity of filling 30,000 cans of 330 ml or 18,000 cans of 500ml in an hour. The filler was imported from Meyer, USA and Seamer from the Metal Box Company. It is noteworthy that throughout the canning process, there is no human intervention. Apart from the cans, there are 50litres and 30litres keg filling line for Draught Beer supply in the state.
Brewery Expansion Plans
SOM Distilleries and Breweries Ltd. are moving on for further expansion to meet its beer demand from domestic, overseas market and contract brewing. This will increase the brewing capacity to 1 million HLA. A multistage micro beer filtration system for producing ultra fine beer is also being incorporated through TMCI Padovan spa, Italy.
A new bottling line which will produce 21,000 Bottles an hour has also been planned. In addition, all related equipments i.e. Bottle washer, filler labeller etc. integrated with PC/PLC conveyor system are being arranged by world renowned manufacturer Krones, KHS, Germany. This will increase the production capacity two times its present capacity.
